Adapting Dialog Call-flows for
نویسندگان
چکیده
There is an increasing variety of pervasive devices in use today. More and more applications are being supported on such devices. This requires device-specific application adaptation. We address the problem of speech application adaptation by dialog call-flow reorganisation for pervasive devices with different memory constraints. Given a dialog call-flow C and device memory size M , we present deterministic algorithms that alter C to create Cm that fits M by increasing the number of questions and splitting the underlying grammar. We can split a grammar by exposing the intermediate non-terminals in the grammar. The following observation forms the cornerstone of this paper: An and-grammar can be split “horizontally”, and an or-grammar can be split “vertically” into its components to reduce the memory requirement of the call-flow, at the expense of increasing the number of prompts (questions). We present algorithm G-split, explain its implementation with example call-flows authored in VXML containing SRGS grammars.

Large-Scale Experiments on Data-Driven Design of Commercial Spoken Dialog Systems
The design of commercial spoken dialog systems is most commonly based on hand-crafting call flows. Voice interaction designers write prompts, predict caller responses, set speech recognition parameters, implement interaction strategies, all based on “best design practices”. Recently, we presented the mathematical framework “Contender” (similar to reinforcement learning) that allows for replacin...
متن کاملUsing Speaker ID to Discover Repeat Callers of a Spoken Dialog System
This paper describes using speaker ID techniques to identify repeat callers in a spoken dialog system, using only acoustic features. Often it is useful to know if a dialog user is a novice or is experienced, and it can be the case that identifying data such as Caller ID is either unreliable or unavailable. Our approach attempts to remedy this by determining user identity in a dialog session usi...

The proliferation of pervasive devices call for the enablement of ubiquitous access via multiple modalities. Since the capabilities of pervasive devices differ vastly, device-specific application adaptation becomes a necessity. We address the problem of speech application adaptation by dialog call-flow reorganisation for pervasive devices with different memory constraints. One usability criteri...
متن کاملOptimizing Automated Call Routing by Integrating Spoken Dialog Models with Queuing Models
Organizations are increasingly turning to spoken dialog systems for automated call routing to reduce call center costs. To maintain quality service even in cases of failure, these systems often resort to ad-hoc rules for dispatching calls to a human operator. We present a principled procedure for determining when callers should be transferred to operators based on a cost-benefit analysis. The p...

Contact centers provide dialog based support to organizations to address various customer related issues. We have observed that the calls received at contact centers mostly follow well defined patterns. Such call flows not only specify how an agent should proceed in a call, handle objections, persuade customers, follow compliance issues, etc but also help to structure the operational process of...
